Embracing New Roles: Life After a Cancer Diagnosis

May 23, 2023

Simon, a former educator, shares his journey of finding a new purpose in life after being diagnosed with cancer. Forced to retire from work, he sought opportunities to use his skills and make a difference in his local community. Simon became involved in various roles, including being a parent governor, participating in community speed watch, and working with a local food bank. These activities provided him with a sense of fulfillment and allowed him to contribute meaningfully. Despite the challenges and occasional setbacks due to illness, Simon encourages others facing similar role changes to be patient and understanding with themselves and those around them. While uncertain about the future, he remains committed to his roles as a father and husband. Simon concludes by emphasising the importance of cherishing the present and making the most of the opportunities available despite the ongoing battle with his health condition.
