National ONLINE WEBINATTER – Fairy lights and flat batteries (managing fatigue)
–
Fatigue is a common challenge for many people affected by cancer, whether during or after treatment. This month’s webinar focuses on recognizing and managing cancer-related fatigue, particularly during meaningful events and celebrations.
Cancer-related fatigue can often be linked to sleep disturbances and other factors. Acknowledging its impact and understanding potential causes are key steps in identifying ways to treat and manage it effectively.
Research has shown that cancer patients may experience less distinction between daytime and nighttime activity, disrupting circadian rhythms and leading to reduced daytime functioning, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, and low mood. These rhythms—such as the 24-hour sleep-wake cycle—affect essential bodily functions like hormone release, metabolism, and temperature regulation. Learning how to manage fatigue, such as addressing treatable causes like anemia, can improve daily life and help you participate in special moments, even if rest is needed afterward.
