WOW – Now this is a challenge!!!
Please join us in congratulating and thanking Andrea, who in September 2021 only went and swam the English Channel, raising over £1800.00 for both NCUK and The Samaritans!
Here’s what Andrea had to say about the challenge:
I am pleased to say that I swam on Thursday 16th September and finished in a time of 14h 14min. The swim was tough at times but I am really glad I did it. I hope the funds I raised can make a difference.
I swam the English Channel as part of a relay team in June 2017, after swimming the length of Windermere the year before, and having really enjoyed it I enquired as to the possibility of doing a solo for my 50th birthday (not until 2024). In the meantime I found out that fewer people has swum the length of Loch Lomond (roughly the same distance) than had swum the Channel and looked into the possibility of doing that. After two years of bad luck (the first being my husband undergoing cancer treatment and the second COVID) I swam the length of Loch Lomond (22ish miles) on 19 August 2021 third year lucky in 14 hours 46 minutes. Friends convinced me that seeing as I recovered well and had done all the training that I may as well swim the Channel too. I saw their point and thought that it was basically now or never so signed up for a slot which will hopefully happen sometime between 14 and 18 September 2021
Andrea successfully completed the challenge and raised £1,963.06 for NCUK.
